***** Fantasy Grand Prix *****
******************************
"#30m at the start of the season? It's a fantasy alright"
-- Ken Tyrell, team owner - Tyrell Racing
******** How It Works ********
You are a grand prix team manager and you have a budget of #30m. From this
you must buy two drivers, a test driver, a chassis and an engine from the
shopping list below. You will run two cars, both which share the same
chassis/engine combination (the prices quoted are for two of each).
With your team assembled, the aim is to score as many points as possible
based on the real results of the season. The manager of the team who has
scored the most points by the end of the series wins.
First a few ground rules: you must not exceed your budget of #30m, select
a driver twice, choose either of your two drivers from the #1m range or
choose a test driver who costs more than #1m. To help you choose your
power, remember that the Ford Zetec-R is the engine used exclusively by
Benetton, while the Ford HB V8 is the one used by other Ford-powered teams.
The Mercedes is the unit used by Sauber, and the Ilmor by Pacific. In
Fantasy Grand Prix, of course, you can mix how you like.
******** How To Score ********
Points are awarded according to the results of the real grands prix.
Your team will score points in the following manner. Both your drivers
can score points. They score 10 points for finishing in the top six, plus
the points awarded in real life for that position - 10, 6, 4, 3, 2 and 1
for the first six drivers home. Thus a win is worth 20 points (10 + 10),
second place 16 (10 + 6), third 14 (10 + 4) etc. If one of your choices
drops out of the championship, tough luck.
In addition, drivers score an extra point for each place they improve over
their qualifying position. There is no deduction for those who lose places
relative to their grid position. However, you lose five points if your driver
posts the race's first retirement, four being deducted for the second
retirement and so on to the loss of a point for the fifth retirement. The
fastest driver on race-day warm-up will collect six points, with five points
for the second quickest driver and so on to a point for the sixth quickest.
Non-qualification costs five points. The test driver will score points only
if he competes on a grand prix weekend, these being allocated on the same
basis as his team mates.
Chassis score in the same fashion, with the normal points score plus 10, ie
20 (10 + 10) for first, down to 11 (10 + 1) for sixth. Only one chassis can
score per team, so a car can score points for finishing seventh if there are
two cars from another team in the top six. Points are deducted for the first
five cars to retire, on the same basis as for the drivers except that one
one car per team can be penalised for retiring. If two cars from the same
team retire, only one loses the points.
Engines score in the same manner as chassis, albeit with no point deductions
for retirements. Again, you can only score engine points once for your team.
There is also 5 points available for one driver who is considered to have
been the best driver in any particular race. There are many ways to
decide who this will be, the original FGP in Autosport had Eurosport
commentator John Watson choosing the nominated driver, however you may
wish to have a vote on the subject or just ignore this altogether.
